Nursing Director, Surgical Services

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a dynamic leader to serve as Nursing Director, Surgical Services to join our team in our Galveston, Texas location.

Under the direction of the Director, Patient Care Services, the Director, Surgical Services plans, supervises and directs the 24 hour operations and activities of Perioperative Services. Responsibilities include staffing, performance management, general fiscal control, continuing education of staff, interdepartmental communication, material and equipment management, and general administrative duties. The Director participates in preparing, managing, and auditing the department budgets.

  • Manages the overall operations of the OR in accordance with hospital policies, standards of nursing practices, and governmental and regulatory agencies for the perioperative areas
  • Addresses management issues identified through hospital process improvement efforts
  • Provides administrative and financial accountability for planning, directing, staffing, coordinating, and controlling functions and activities of the OR
  • Monitors and proposes improvement initiatives related to hospital customer satisfaction processes
  • Participates in preparing annual operations and capital expense budgets, direct necessary analysis, factoring financial need into budget projections, and present per hospital protocols
  • Provide monthly analysis and reporting of revenue and expenses per hospital processes
  • Administers data collection system for staffing utilization, room utilization, and preparation of periodic productivity reports used at the hospital
  • Maintains or proposes revisions to programs for staff retention and recruitment, continuing education, and competency-based learning
  • Participates in perioperative standing committees and hospital-wide committees as assigned
  • Communicates with physicians and work closely with the Medical Director to maintain a high standard of medical care and development of client relationships with surgeons


Education

Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) required

Experience

4 years of management/supervisory experience required

Certification and Licensure

BLS required

Licensed in state of practice require
