The D epart m ent of Biostatistics, Data Science and Epidemiology (BDSE) in the School of Public Health at Augusta Uni v ersity ( AU ) invites applications f o r a tenur e -track fac u lty p osition in Biostatistics and Data Science at the A ssistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor rank to start in F a ll 2024. A cad em ic rank w ill be co mme nsurate w ith e xp e ri e nc e. I n terest a n d a b ility in m ethodological research in Biostatistics & D ata S cience and active collaboration w ith oth e r investigators in bio m edical, popu l ation h e alth, and translational res e arch w ithin and outside of AU. Interest and ability in teaching a variety of graduate level statistics and data science cours e s w ill b e i m portant facto r s in the sel e ction of candidate s . The position w ill re m ain op e n until filled.

Responsibilities

The newly hired faculty will report to the Department Chair, conduct methodological research in Biostatistics and Data Science, engage in collaborative research with other investigators in biomedical, public health, and translational research within and outside of AU, publish methodological work in excellent peer reviewed journals of the field, disseminate collaborative work by publishing collaborative manuscripts in relevant peer reviewed journals, pursue extramural funding opportunities, and provide services to the department and the institution. The faculty will teach courses offered in the department¿s various graduate programs and mentor graduate students in these programs.

Required Qualifications

The candidate for this position must have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Statistics or a closely related field by the time the appointment starts. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member.

Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.

Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. Per Board of Regents (BOR) policy, Professors must have a terminal degree.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Department of Biostatistics, Data Science and Epidemiology offers doctoral and postdoctoral training programs in Biostatistics and Master's degree program in Biostatistics, Data Science, in Clinical Translational Science, and in Epidemiology. The new faculty member will join a highly interdisciplinary faculty and will play an integral role in the ongoing expansion of research and education at AU. The academic departments, and centers and institutes such as the Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine, Cyber Institute, Georgia Cancer Center, Institute of Public and Preventive Health and Sickle Cell Center provide rich opportunities for interdisciplinary research.
