Job Description

We are an optometry practice seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, and patient service-oriented individual to join our eye care team. Candidate must be reliable, dependable and detail oriented.

Job Description: The position of optometric assistant supports eye care delivery by answering the phone, making appointments, billing patients and insurances, ordering contact lenses and glasses, assisting the doctor when needed, etc.

Optometric Assistant Job Duties:

  • Ensures a smooth flow of patients throughout the office.
  • Answers and screens phone calls as well as assists in appointment scheduling
  • Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and exam room utilization by efficiently pre-testing patients.
  • Verifies vision insurance as well as billing and filing.
  • Assists patient in optical with frame and lens selection.
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary tests; performing auto refraction, tonometry, visual fields, and retinal images; reporting patient history summary.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area.
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by accurately recording and retrieving patient records.
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential.
  • Submits orders for contact lenses and glasses as well as verifies orders when they arrive.
  • Counsels patients by instructing on use and care of contact lenses.
  • Returns patient phone calls and informs patients when orders have arrived.
  • Maintains necessary interactions with sales representatives to facilitate the implementation of new products.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Serves and protects the optometry practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (GED)
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Proficiency with computers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

  • Our office will provide on-site training for the ideal candidate as well as continuing education. We are looking for someone who wants a career...not just a job!
  • We are closed Saturday and Sunday.
  • Candidate must successfully pass a criminal background check.
