About The Role

Gusto is looking for a talented, motivated, and highly organized Paralegal to support the Legal Employment & Litigation team. In this role you’ll be working in a fast-paced, dynamic, environment supporting litigation and employment matters and handling responses to third-party information requests, including subpoenas and escalated customer demands. You’ll also support the Legal Operations function, managing outside counsel relationships and building scalable systems and processes to support the Legal & Compliance team.

About The Team

You will be joining the Legal & Compliance team at Gusto, reporting to the Head of Legal Employment & Litigation and helping to build out the Employment & Litigation and Legal Operations functions. You will work closely with members of the Legal team, as well as various cross-departmental partners throughout the business.

Here’s What You’ll Do Day-to-day

  • Provide litigation support to the Legal Employment & Litigation team with management of administrative, pre-litigation, and litigation matters, and external legal requests
  • Investigate pre-litigation and litigation matters and draft communications
  • Play a key role in handling small claims matters
  • Organize, manage and update case management system and case materials; calendar response deadlines
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners in handling of requests
  • Manage outside counsel relationships, firm onboarding and offboarding, bar admissions, legal subscriptions and tech resources
  • Build systems and processes to enhance operational efficiency of the Legal Department
  • Provide support on special projects, research, and data analytics tasks

Here’s What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience as a litigation paralegal
  • Experience working on a high volume docket of third-party requests and subpoenas
  • Ability to prioritize and be responsive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to build positive relationships with internal stakeholders
  • High degree of organization and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent business judgment
  • Ability to learn and take initiative to build tools and processes
  • A collaborative approach and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, cross-functionally, and independently
  • A team player mindset (no job is too big or too small)

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $127,000 - $157,000 in San Francisco and $108,000 - $134,000 in Denver. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
