JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The dairy nutrition research laboratory of Dr. Alex Hristov is seeking an undergraduate student to fill a part-time research support position.
Duties of this position include weighing cattle refusal feed, collecting feed samples, and assisting graduate students in their research trials with other sample collection (fecals, urine, blood, rumen contents, etc.).
Experience with cattle or other livestock is preferred, however not necessary. Students will also be responsible for assisting with sample processing in the lab such as drying samples, grinding samples using a Wiley Mill, weighing samples, and after training, help running various sample analyses.
General care and cleaning of the lab and research areas is also expected. Individuals need to be detail-oriented, motivated, and capable of working independently. Hours are flexible (up to 24 hrs/wk), however students are responsible for at least one early morning refusal shift per week (5 AM) and up to two weekend days per month. Furthermore, sampling can take place at all hours of the day and night and students are expected to assist where possible.
