Job Description

General Information:

• Position Title: Writing Mentor, Learning Services Program.
• Home Department: Academic Support and Access Center.
  
  

Position Summary

The Learning Services Program, a program for first year students with learning disabilities, is looking for two Writing Mentors for the academic year. The Writing Mentors will provide individual assistance in one-on-one weekly meetings to students with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder.

Essential Functions

• Reviewing academic writing.
• Offering instruction.
• Making recommendations for improving writing skills and proofreading and editing.
• Training and supervision will be provided.
  
  

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

• Hours are expected to be about 15 hours per week for each Writing Mentor, and the position will start in late August.
  
  

Salary Range

• $17.50 - $19.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  
  

Required Education And Experience

• B.A. in related field.
• Experience or training in teaching or tutoring writing required, preferably to individuals with learning disabilities.
• The Writing Mentor position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, patience in working with others, and attention to detail.
  
  

Preferred Education And Experience

• M.A. preferred.
