Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig (DBL) is seeking a qualified Patent Paralegal with 1-3 years of experience to work in our Leesburg, Virginia office. The ideal candidate must have excellent writing and research abilities, a demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, and a proven track record of results.
DBL assists clients ranging from beginner inventors to innovative startups, to the world’s top technology research university. We help clients protect everything from simple mechanical inventions to complex electrical, chemical, biotechnology, and software innovations. We are seeking a candidate who can simultaneously manage a large variety of assignments, engage with clients directly with professionalism and enthusiasm for their accomplishments, and work quickly and effectively to generate top-quality work products.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1-3 years as a patents paralegal or in a related intellectual property role
Able to work in a capacity with strict privacy and confidentiality requirements inside and outside the firm
Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume environment
Ability to communicate effectively with clients via phone and email communication
Strong attention to detail required. Double checks the accuracy, formatting, and grammar of written communications while handling confidential information sensitively and discreetly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), Adobe, and SharePoint
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Paralegal certification preferred
Responsibilities:
Performs moderately complex legal research
Prepares supporting documents for attorneys and agents
Provide general administrative support
Prepare and file U.S. patent applications and responses using Patent Center
Establishes and maintains patent files
Review and manage files and docket for deadlines, understand docket and deadlines and action needed on each file
Records time for billing purposes
Draft correspondence to clients regarding status of applications and patents.
Prepare client retainer agreements, run party conflict checks and open new matters in the firm management system
Assisting attorneys with reviewing/monitoring incoming correspondence and preparing outgoing correspondence
No Nights or Weekends! Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm schedule
