Pentagon Reporter

POLITICO is seeking an ambitious and enterprising reporter to cover the Pentagon for our growing Defense team.

POLITICO’s Defense team digs into consequential issues across a wide range of areas at the intersection of weapons, warfare, politics and policy. We’re looking for a deeply-sourced reporter with an interest in all things Pentagon who can deliver agenda-setting scoops on leadership, policies, weapons transfers, internal deliberations, intelligence, personnel movements, and relations with the administration, Congress and partners overseas.

The successful candidate will have a track record of delivering scoops and enterprise reporting in a fast-paced daily newsroom. This position includes ample opportunity to write news and enterprise stories that appear across all of POLITICO’s platforms — from newsy dispatches for subscribers to enterprise stories for POLITICO’s home page to other newsletters — both in the U.S. and in Europe.

What You’ll Need

• At least two years of experience working as a reporter in a daily newsroom.
• Excellent news judgment and a deep understanding of how the Defense Department works.
• The desire to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues throughout the company.
