This is a year-to-year appointment, contingent upon funding and performance. This position will support the greater 9-instution Faculty Organizing for Community Archives Support, FOCAS, collective as well as the University of Arizona PI and Co-PI in their work developing the program locally and successfully placing student workers in community archives contexts; develop a website for the entire FOCAS collective; support all FOCAS institutions in developing community archives courses, syllabi, and sample exercises to be shared on the website; research pedagogical tools and share with FOCAS collective in regular 'think aloud' meetings to brainstorm tools that can be used in classrooms as well as across community contexts; participate in classroom teaching about community archives; initiate and facilitate the local mapping of community archives, community collections, and heritage collections; help to supervise summer projects; facilitate fall and spring orientation for new student workers; and participate in regular FOCAS meetings.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on the archival studies pedagogy in and with community archives; support PIs locally and the collective in framing what is being done across our institutions; gather curricular and pedagogical resources; participate in classroom teaching about community archives.
  • Project management and student supervision.
  • Coordinate and develop the shared FOCAS website and resource toolkit.
  • Map the current community archives, community collections in each of the FOCAS partners' regions.
  • Work closely with PI and Co-PI on planning and operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in information science, history, digital humanities, media studies, and gender & women's studies/ethnic studies
  • Experience in conducting qualitative research
  • Experience in collections-based research and collections development
  • Experience working with the development of web-based pedagogical tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with community archives;
  • Experience building and maintaining websites;
  • Experience working with web-based mapping tools;
  • Experience working with teams in virtual and in-person contexts;
  • Experience working in and with community-based projects
