Production Engineer – Established Hedge Fund – $150,000-200,000 Salary + Bonuses

That’s because at heart, you’re a problem solver. But you don’t just solve them in your job, you seek them out because you love the buzz of solving a problem. Complex technical problems get your juices flowing even more.

Here, they’ll only come in complex form.

*It’s worth noting from the start that the term “support” here isn’t about plugging things in, cabling, or keeping the lights on. It’s about producing automated solutions so that the issues (hopefully) don’t arise again.

You’ll be doing a mixture of application support*, systems availability/support* and automation. From an application support point of view, you won’t just be supporting the Hedge Fund trading systems, but literally every single system used. It could be the trading system, but it could also be a HR system, or a back-office payments solution. Don’t be fooled though, due to the huge amount of data flowing through them, they’re all complex systems.

When it comes to the systems availability and support, you’ll love getting to grips with new systems. For the first few months you’ll embed yourself into the technical team and with that, the systems. Again, when we talk about support, we mean discussing the issue with a user and asking the right questions in order to get to the bottom of the problem, so you can then use your problem skills to get it sorted however you feel is suitable.

Then finally, automation. Python, Powershell, Bash/Shell, you name it. You don’t need to be an expert in them all, but that doesn’t matter because you’ll find a way to solve the problem.

This is a quant-driven, global Hedge Fund. It’s still got the “small environment” feel and will continue to do so, with less than 500 people worldwide it’s a lean and agile Hedge Fund with extremely strong performance across all market conditions. Every person can have an impact and that’ll be no different to you. You’ll also be given direct exposure to traders, portfolio managers and other key stakeholders in the business, all of whom you’ll be able to learn from.

Salary and total compensation will totally depend on you, your requirements and your skillset and an indicative range would be between $150,000-200,000 plus bonuses. Add to that an on-site chef, barista coffee and a world-class office and hopefully this starts to sound like something worth moving for.
