The Northern Ontario Assessment and Resource Centre/Centre d’évaluation et de ressources du Nord de l’Ontario (NOARC/CERNO), located within Cambrian College, has an immediate need for a Psychometrist. This is a 9-month permanent position; the successful candidate will work 9 months every year and need not reapply for the position.
Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.
A Psychometrist administers, scores, and reports the results of standard neuropsychological and psychological tests used in the diagnosis of high incidence neurodevelopmental disorders. A psychometrist is also educated in clinical interviewing and the statistical analysis of psychometric data. Under the supervision of registered psychological practitioners, psychometrists prepare reports for students seeking assessment of high incidence disabilities based on an integration of background documents, interview findings and psychometric data.
Duties and Responsibilities
After consultation with a supervising registered practitioner, administers selected neuropsychological, socio-emotional, cognitive, and academic achievement measures to students on a one-on-one basis to obtain data germane to the determination of the presence of a learning disability, mental health issues, or other intellectual deficits.
Writes up behavioral observations from assessment sessions and produces a report containing relevant background information, interview findings and test scores to generate a tentative conclusion and set of recommendations. Reports are sent for review to the supervising registered psychological practitioner using secure methods that protect confidentiality.
Travels to different campuses in Northern Ontario, as required to conduct assessment work with students.
Works under the supervision of NOARC researchers and clinicians to deliver transition programs and activities to students with learning exceptionalities making the transition from grade 8 to secondary school or secondary school to college and/or university. This may require presentations, survey design, groups discussions and grading assignments.
Reads peer-reviewed journal articles and prepares critical reviews for presentation to peers on a regular basis and NOARC consortium members on occasional basis.
Responsible for gathering data on various research projects involving human participants which require following precise research protocols and ethical treatment of human participants.
Qualifications
Must have a graduate degree in Psychology recognized by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
Eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario as a Psychologist or Psychological Associate
Minimum of one year of supervised (by a registered clinician) experience in the administration and write-up of psychological assessments.
Possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to be an effective role model.
Highly developed critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
Competent use of technology (Microsoft Office).
Valid Ontario Driver’s License as there will be some travel within this role.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment is essential
