General Description of Job: The Quality Control Specialist is product-oriented and focused on identifying quality issues at the source in the production area. To ensure customer requirements, product sampling is performed at critical processes along with monitoring of process requirements. This includes Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices. A balance of quality expectations to meet customer needs coupled with an understanding of productivity in a manufacturing environment.


This role is 2nd shift 4 x 10 working Monday through Thursday, 3:50pm to 2:20am. Training will take place on 1st shift Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 2:30pm for approximately two months.


Primary Tasks and Responsibilities (Note, activities that occupy approx. 80% of time):

  • Reviews press retains for workmanship and provides appropriate feedback to operators and supervisors, in a timely fashion.
  • Reviews inspection records on forms and provides 2nd party sign and line clearances for jobs about to run on Press.
  • Assists in quality checks during shift change-over to ensure it is effectively and efficiently performed.
  • Ensures First Article, Final Inspection or customer qualification samples are available as requested.
  • Assists in consistent, accurate records including good documentation practices.
  • Assists the Press Operators in processing Quality Hold items as needed.
  • Performs periodic tests as required throughout the run at press (ex. COF tests)


Secondary Tasks and Responsibilities (Occupies balance of time):

  • Reviews set up checks on forms and provides 2nd party sign off for quality and line clearances for jobs about to run on Rewind or in Packaging.
  • Provide guidance for quality concerns that arise in Rewind and Packaging
  • Assists in Printers Error process as needed.
  • Provides and participates in quality improvement initiatives to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Performs periodic quality inspections throughout the run to assure job meets customer expectations (ex. die stain tests, bar code scans, and verifying dimensions).
  • Performs internal audits as needed (as they fit into current workload).


Physical Job Demands:

  • This position requires a considerable amount of walking through all press areas and being on your feet for long periods of time up to 10 hours (depending on shift).
  • Occasional lifting/carrying 35-50 pounds.


Skills/Abilities to Meet Job Requirements:

  • Reads/writes English.
  • Good organizational skills; good communication skills; accuracy with numbers and information (basic math skills; attention to detail; good work ethics.
  • Ability to use measuring tools such as ruler, barcode verifier, COF Tester, and calipers.
  • Print/ Spec Reading.
  • Level temperament.
  • Basic computer skills.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED. Quality field experience is desired or must be willing to learn basic quality control principles.
  • Print/manufacturing experience is a plus. Additional experience in rewind and converting helpful.
