Hiring Quality Manager for Great Opportunity!

Reporting to the North America Power Distribution Quality Director, the Quality Manager will lead corporate, local site, and regulatory quality initiatives and processes. The Quality Manager will develop quality standards for the organization’s raw materials, in-process products, and finished products and design new, complex, or innovative measures, tests, sampling methods, and other procedures that ensure that these standards are met. This position works closely with Corporate Quality, facility leadership, as well as external agencies and resources. The Quality manager is viewed as the resident expert and communicates with top officials on the behalf of the company.

This position reports to a department manager. The position performs tasks associated with measuring, collecting, and analyzing data that will be used in supporting special projects to improve product quality. Primary/routine tasks are to provide process and problem-solving support that could be related to waste/scrap reduction. Position requires utilization of problems solving tools identified in a Lean Sigma culture.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews Quality documentation and monitors such documents to ensure they are accurate, complete, and reflect most up-to-date regulations.
  • Carry out proper tests and controls aimed at verifying product conformity, starting from incoming inspection on raw materials to final test on finished goods.
  • Analyze processes and identify areas of improvement to ensure RTFT (Right the First Time) goals are achieved.
  • Directly manage customer visits/audits and be the team leader for customer claims management and resolution.
  • Provides technical expertise and hands on support on Quality matters to operations. Interprets applicable regulatory regulations, makes conclusions, and issues technical reports of findings.
  • Provides mentoring, coaching, counseling, and training to employees regarding quality.
  • Initiates and drives continuous improvement projects/activities/programs as a result of risk assessments.
  • May liaise with external vendors, contractors, or suppliers to ensure that their products or services meet the organization's quality standards.
  • Study standards and specifications, extract the information necessary for production and quality assurance, popularize and distribute them.
  • Develop/maintain manufacturing procedures for equipment, distribute and revise procedures, participate in training in manufacturing procedures.
  • Know the characteristics of the products made/installed (construction, tolerances, surface finish, production speed, customer performance, etc.). Work with Plant, Product and Field Engineers to improve products as well as manufacturing methods and procedures.
  • Monitor the performance of external providers, and collaborate with suppliers to improve their quality and performance.
  • Interact with customers, Sales, factory and field employees to ensure product compliance and continuous improvement with them.
  • Organize and manage the multidisciplinary Kaizens of continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for product quality issues, including customer complaints and feedback, production inspection procedures, final inspection, root cause analysis and corrective action management.
  • Participate and/or lead field failure investigations on cable, cable system components such as terminations, splices, and link boxes.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • A working knowledge of international and market specific quality requirements. Including but not limited to:
    • ISO 9001
    • UL
    • CSA
  • Strong organizational & planning skills.
  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong understanding continuous improvement tools (Lean and/or 6 Sigma certification preferred).
  • Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other standard computer applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (oral & written), able to interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Technical understanding of electrical cables and/or systems.
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or other related field.
  • 3 years of direct Quality experience including quality engineering, root cause evaluation, standards and procedural development, auditing, and training.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a supervisory role.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Works out of a normal manufacturing environment with standard office equipment available.
  • Will be required to sit, bend, kneel, squat, use keyboard, read, write, and speak fluently.
  • Employee will be required to work productively and cooperatively in a high-volume, fast paced, highly pressured environment and be able to respond efficiently and courteously to unanticipated problems and crisis.
  • Travel within the US may be required.
