Research And Development Engineer

Our client is seeking an R&D Engineer in the Thermoformed Packaging division. This position focuses on developing, designing, and qualifying new thermoplastic materials and processes for various markets.

Responsibilities:

• Act as a subject matter expert in plastic material processing for consumer packaging.
• Provide recommendations on manufacturing equipment to support current operations and future growth capabilities.
• Address internal and external packaging requirements within a manufacturing context.
• Manage technical project integration by collaborating with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers to solve complex challenges and enhance product performance.
• Drive innovation by originating new ideas that align with R&D product innovation and technology strategies.
• Foster an environment of motivation and engagement within the R&D organization to achieve goals.
• Uphold compliance with company safety policies and procedures to safeguard all employees.
• Travel up to 30% domestically.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science.
• 7+ years of experience in plastics manufacturing with strong technical proficiency in extrusion, thermoforming, and tooling; experience in consumer-based food packaging is advantageous.
• Demonstrated success in leading capital projects involving OEMs and suppliers within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in resins, additives, coatings, and laminates.
• Results-driven with a proactive approach, initiative, and ownership mindset.
• Curiosity and awareness of emerging technologies within and beyond the industry.
• Experience collaborating across functions (e.g., commercial, manufacturing, supply management) to lead projects.
• Strong problem-solving skills and technical acumen.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
