Dr. Michael E. Chernew, the Leonard D. Schaeffer Professor of Health Care Policy, seeks a full-time Research Assistant (RA) to contribute to research projects using the newly released data on health care prices in the commercial market. This data, released by insurers, is the most comprehensive data on prices in health care. The selected candidate will need to have strong data management skills and ideally a background in economics, health economics and health policy. The candidate would be expected to draft and co-author papers, create presentation/ dissemination materials, and prepare PowerPoint slides and possibly IRB protocols. Although the candidate will work with a team on these projects, they must be able to take a leadership role and perform work perform independently. This position is ideal for candidates seeking to conduct research in preparation for an advanced degree in health economics or health policy. Prior research experience, along with demonstrated knowledge of research areas, research methods and experience with statistical analysis techniques is desired. The ideal candidate will be self- motivated to succeed with limited supervision and direction.
Basic Qualifications
- Two or more years related research experience. Higher education may count towards experience.
- Applicant should have proficiency in using statistical software packages such as STATA, SAS, R and Python.
- Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred.
- Related work experience is desired.
- Responsibilities will require knowledge of health care delivery systems and the relevant research populations; an understanding of statistics, statistical programs and research methods, as well as data management.
- Responsibilities will require strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate objectives to multiple audiences.
- Required interpersonal skills: ability to work well within a group or independently; organization and attention to detail; demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness to complete tasks without high level direction; independent judgment, patience and ability to maintain a calm and cooperative attitude during periods of increased activity.
- High level understanding of health policy and health care systems in the U.S.
- Experience with statistical programming using at least one of the following, a plus: STATA, SAS, Python, R.
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Work Format Details
This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
