The laboratories of Drs. David Lin (Bioengineering) and Bert Tanner (Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience) are hiring an entry level research intern position. Applicants should be prepared to learn about and perform hands-on research that has an emphasis on skeletal muscle function. Research in the laboratory will test the molecular, cellular, and tissue-level mechanisms that enable movement. This research will bring together biochemical, biomechanical, cell-biology, and engineering techniques. Applicants need to become proficient with animal handling, macro- and micro-dissection, data analysis, data curation, statistical analysis, and experimental design. Applicants should be able to work independently, be motivated and curious about the complexities of fundamental processes within physical and biological sciences, and hold undergraduate degree(s) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. Other expectations include: presenting at lab meetings and journal clubs, helping graduate and undergraduate students develop their research interests, and project management within a team environment. Preferred applicants will also have some experience computer programming, as most of the data reduction, analysis, and visualization within our laboratories utilize Matlab.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing professional-level work with scientific or clinical research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experimental and analytical skills; understanding and knowledge of research theory; interviewing experience; excellent organizational and project management skills.
Basic computer programming experience.
Hand-eye coordination for micro-dissection.

Monthly Salary
$3,379.14 - $4,000.00 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
