Essential Functions
Duties & Responsibilities
Instruction
Provide direct instruction to English language learners.
Utilize existing curriculum and collaborate with the team to develop and refine it.
Teach various subjects including ESL, Citizenship, Computer Skills, Vocational Training, Job Readiness, Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency Exam Preparation, and Family Literacy.
Create a welcoming, engaging, and supportive learning environment, both online and in-person as needed.
Collaborate with team members to ensure instructional continuity and support for students.
Program Administrative Support
Track attendance at each session and record individual and group progress as required.
Administer pre/post-tests to students as schedules allow.
Conduct intake interviews with new students.
Assist with program administrative duties during non-instruction time as needed.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma is required.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in teaching or tutoring.
Relevant lived experience in refugee resettlement or forced migration is considered an asset.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (K/S/A)
Multilingual skills are strongly preferred.
Comfortable working with diverse populations.
Flexible and adaptable to different populations and skill levels.
Excellent communication skills; strong networker and relationship builder.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
High degree of collaboration, emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other relevant software.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various situations.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.
Work Arrangement
This role offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement. In-person meetings may be required regularly. There is also the flexibility to work from home when appropriate.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
May require working nights and weekends.
May be required to remain on premises during breaks and meal periods until a replacement arrives.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to talk or hear.
Frequently required to sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
