RN - Coordinator of School Health Services

Job Description

We are seeking a RN to serve as a Coordinator of Health Services in a KC Metro district for the '24-'25 school year, to join our team! You will be responsible to coordinate a school health program for students and staff that reduces or eliminates health related barriers to academic success. Programs should serve to minimize absences due to illness, promote an optimal level of wellness, and provide the fullest possible educational opportunities for each student. Supervises health room paraprofessionals, LPNs and RNs.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a direct link between families, healthcare providers, and community agencies.
  • Serve as the health care consultant for school personnel, students and their parents/families.
  • Participate in the establishment, review and implementation of school health/services policies and procedures.
  • Provide professional health leadership to administrators and school staff.
  • Document, compile and analyze data for required reports as they relate to school health services.
  • Provide professional development and training opportunities for health services staff, including the administration of medication to students.
  • Participate in the development of emergency health and crisis plans.
  • Uphold professional standards, the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, and other statutes and regulations applicable to the practice of school nursing.
  • Apply appropriate theory as a basis for the decision-making in nursing practice.
  • Maintain a comprehensive, coordinated school health program that promotes an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
  • Collect health and developmental information on students in a systematic and continuous manner and use this information in the determination of nursing diagnosis.
  • Develop nursing care plans with specific goals and interventions unique to student needs.
  • Implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, and effect rehabilitation.
  • Assist schools in developing community/school collaborations that provide health related activities and programs.
  • Maintain a first aid and crisis intervention delivery plan for staff and students.
  • Identify school safety hazards and recommend appropriate prevention or remediation programs.
  • Prevent the outbreak and spread of communicable disease through assessment and consistent enforcement of law and policy.
  • Supervise the collection and maintenance of health records for students.
  • Work jointly with building administrators to supervise nurses and health room paraprofessionals.
  • Coordinate and oversee health contract/grant activities and budgets.
  • Other duties and resposibilities as assigned by Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
  • Care for ill, injured, or convalescing student
  • Provide basic patient care and treatment
  • Collaborate with registered nurses to administer prescribed medications
  • Sterilize and prepare medical tools and equipment
  • Educate and update patients on medical treatments

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in nursing or other medical fields
  • RN, BSN required
  • Familiarity with medical tools and equipment
  • Ability to build rapport with patients
  • Compassionate and caring demeanor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
