The Role

The Safety Manager is responsible for providing overall day-to-day safety supervision on a large scale chemical , new construction, manufacturing facility, and managing the company’s safety program, safety culture, policies, and procedures. They are responsible for training employees and subcontractors in accordance with client, state, federal, and OSHA regulations and fostering a safe work environment. This role may have direct reports.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years’ experience in the construction industry with a commercial or industrial general contractor, or in the oil/gas industry preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction and engineering means and methods
  • Experience managing safety inspections, safety and accident prevention plans, substance abuse programs, Stop Work Authority program, and incident/accident investigations.
  • Must demonstrate a strong ability to:

may include but not limited to: Microsoft Office suite and other construction systems

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field highly desired
  • Safety relevant certifications required Current OSHA 500/510/CHST/CSST
  • Train-the-Trainer Certification in MEWP and Powered Industrial Trucks

Responsibilities

  • Safety: Oversee and train subcontractors and personnel on job site operations ensuring projects are in accordance with the company’s Accident Prevention Plan and Safety Program; Implement and administer client and company related safety requirements to ensure the safety and well-being of all personnel on job sites; Monitor all job site operations for compliance with contract requirements; Provide job site safety checks to ensure adherence to Accident Prevention Plans; Prepare and submit accurate, detailed, written safety reports; Serve as a lead role in preparatory meetings to ensure needed health, safety, and environmental (HSE) planning and actions are understood and successful; Maintain communication with project team to ensure proper project safety planning, inspections, needed actions, follow through, and analysis; Attend onsite safety visits and manage inspections; Review and approve Activity Hazard Analysis; Manage safety documentation and related processes; Manage accident investigations and determining the actions required to eliminate the reoccurrence of a similar incident; Manage the First Aid Department and substance abuse program; Liaise with insurance providers on personal injury and property damage; Direct the Assured Grounding Program for electrical tools and workplace hazards; Manage safety recognition program; Monitor and coordinate work permits for construction; Manage OSHA required reporting; Partner with contractors in locating sources of potential hazards on project sites, including toxic materials, potential electrocution, structural threats to safety, and finding ways to eliminate such hazardous threats from sites.
  • Training & Safety Culture: Manage training program and content related to safety and job site security; Manage efforts and initiatives to promote the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees and subcontractors to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Performance of the required job duties will be in an on project site-office environment along with daily project walks that are under construction which may include various weather conditions.

  • The ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • The ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, or reach
  • The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
