Scent Design Trainee

About You:

We are looking for curious, critical thinkers with strong problem-solving skills that question everything and are willing to reinvent the SCENT industry. Candidates with analytical ability to penetrate data and uncover consumer insights. Talent with ability to design experiments and apply scientific method principles to innovation programs. Other key characteristics for this role are: persistent drive for results, priority setting, innate product culture, excellent interpersonal skills and customer focus (internal and external). Applicants to preferably hold bachelor’s degree in chemistry, marketing or business and / or Masters in Fragrance or business. You will be required to complete internal smelling test and show above average olfactive acuity. Previous working experience is not needed but desirable.

As a Scent Design Trainee you will be able to:

• Learn the Scent Design role, how it fits into the business and contributes to IFF’s corporate results
• Learn the connections between the different functions and how they can contribute to the creative strategy of a project (Market / brand intelligence, consumer preference)
• Learn and execute the process and the fundamentals of a Scent Portfolio
• Learn the perfumer’s collection and how to utilize accordingly
• Learn the coordination of fragrance selection for incoming briefs
• Learn techniques for fragrance selection and evaluation within brief requirements
• Learn to classify and describe fragrances
• Learn to articulate olfactive terminologies and fragrance directions to perfumers
• Develop basic understanding of consumer olfactive preferences in key strategic countries
• Gain insight on customers brands and key markets for specific categories (e.g. important leading brands and the market overview)
• Collaborate with a team of experienced Senior Scent Design Managers and Senior Perfumers that will coach you in a daily basis.

Trainees who show great achievements and culture fit will be selected to advance within IFF’s Scent Design Career Ladder.
