Position Summary:


The School-based Education Manager works to coordinate and implement effective programs that promote student wellness and reduce suicide. The School-based Education Manager’s primary responsibility is to ensure that NCF school-based programs in our community are active, consistent, and based on best practices.

Supervisor: Executive Director

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience

Work Location: Flathead Valley, Whitefish Montana


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Support and monitor the implementation of selected curricula of school training and education programs.
  • Deliver and facilitate appropriate trainings and presentations (including Signs of Suicide, Montana Happiness project and Forefront’s LEARN) to children and youth in the county school system.
  • Develop and manage the Student Consortium/Youth Mental Wellness Summit and peer-to-peer project-based youth initiatives that promote a culture of student wellness. 
  • Develop, implement, and manage a youth advisory committee. 
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and evaluation of all school-based program delivery data, and other data as appropriate. 
  • Develop and maintain youth-serving community relationships.
  • Serves as Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) Coordinator in collaboration with Communities that Cares Coordinator, YAM State Director, and Implementation Committee. Understand and promote local and national resources.
  • Work with the team to develop and maintain a framework for volunteer trainers to support presentations of Signs of Suicide and Youth Aware of Mental Health curriculums. 
  • Ensure adherence to best practice, evidence-based models for suicide prevention.
  • Promote and attend NCF events, as requested.
  • Participate in Board of Director meetings or committees, as requested.
  • Other duties / special projects as may be assigned. 



Education and/or Experience: 


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher, or significant professional experience in Social Work, Counseling, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working in community mental health, suicide prevention, or non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building experience.
  • Advanced computer literacy including Excel, Word, and Google Suites
  • Experience working in a program serving K-12 youth in a school setting. 
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check

  • Strong communicator and collaborator
  • Ability to train and provide presentations to large and small groups 
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage workload and deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks (establishing objectives, organizing and mobilizing staff to implement plans, planning ability, evaluation skills).
  • Ability to collaborate with other social service professionals, agencies, and staff. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel when necessary. 
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by families living in Montana communities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize community resources.
  • Must have access to consistent transportation and hold a valid driver's license



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Certification in Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training or Instructor Training, Signs of Suicide (Middle School, High School curriculum), Mental Health First Aid (Youth and Adult), and/or other evidence-based suicide prevention curriculums.
