Job Title: School Counselor
Supervisor: Head of School/Principal
Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:45pm Duration: 11 months
Salary: Is commensurate with the candidate's years of relevant experience.
Description: The School Counselor at Codman Academy Charter Public School supports all programming and systems related to the social emotional growth and mental health of students at CodmanAcademy. The counselor is collaborative, focused on inclusive support and encourages students to generalize. By working closely with Director of Special Education, Special Education Liaisons, and the Director of Student Support, as well as partners (e.g. Clinical Interns, Codman Square Health Center, EL Education) and families, the School Adjustment Counselor supports and enhances the consistency of a supportive culture and community at Codman Academy. As a K1-12 role, the Counselor holds and pushes forward Codman’s vision for whole child education.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
School Based Mental Health Support
○ Oversee and ensure goals are written by relevant mental health service providers.
○ Acts as liaison to the caseload of IEP students.
Proactive/ Intervention Support
○ Facilitate K1-4 and 5-8 Team partners.
○ Monitoring student attendance and creation of tiered plans for intervention
○ Leads a team of staff to ensure plans for students with social emotional and mental health difficulties are developed and implemented with fidelity.
○ Designing and conducting play therapy program for interns
○ Move This World
Crisis Intervention

○ Organize and coordinate Resource Library for staff
○ Plan and Facilitate Professional Development for Staff around trauma informed practices in the classroom
Research and Partnerships

○ Share out relevant findings with immediate team (Director of Special Education, Special Education Liaisons, Deans of Culture, Director of Student Support) regularly
○ Collaborate with Codman Square Health Center and Partnership Director as needed.
○ Coordinate Professional Development sessions for staff on an as needed basis.

School Based Mental Health Support
- Provides direct counseling as appropriate to individual students and small groups
- Acts as Mental Health Leader on IEP/504 Teams, ensuring clinical support and direction is at the table for all students
- Collaborates with IEP Teams to design services that support the needs of students in inclusive
- Provides consultation to families and service providers as needed and maintains students’
- Organizes and refers eligible students for outside mental health services with caretaker consent
- Designing, implementing, supervising, and overseeing the play therapy internship program
- Designs and ensures facilitation of groups for students allowing for skill development and
- Writes and monitors social-emotional goals for K1-12 specified IEP students and attends IEP

- Lead facilitator of Student Support Teams K1-12, working with Special Education Team to
○ Facilitate K1-4 and 5-8 Team partners.
- Collaborates with the Director of Student Support around the filing of any 51As and/or CRAs in support of students
○ Monitoring student attendance and creation of tiered plans for intervention
- Support in developing RTI Plans and monitoring all interventions to ensure best practice and
○ Leads a team of staff to ensure plans for students with social emotional and mental health difficulties are developed and implemented with fidelity.
- Supervise Clinical Interns (K-6)
○ Designing and conducting play therapy program for interns
- Coordinate and Oversee SEL Initiatives
○ Move This World
- Completion of School Wide Intakes with students as assigned by the Enrollment/Recruitment Team
- Supports Senior Leadership Team with Professional Development Planning to ensure PD is
- Monthly meeting with Director of Student Support to ensure collaboration and forward moving of
Crisis Intervention
- Assists students in crisis situations and makes appropriate referrals and/or implements immediate interventions
- Develops student intervention and de-escalation processes and protocols to create a safe
- Meets with students and families to develop re-entry, social-emotional and behavior support plans to enhance student growth
- Conducts appropriate and necessary visits to student homes and community agencies
- Coordinate with outside organizations around research/studies around mental health
- Push-In to Classrooms/Crews to support development of trauma informed spaces and practices
