Senior Associate Editor

The Atlantic is seeking a creative, fast-moving Senior Associate Editor to help craft and execute our digital and social video strategy. This will include translating The Atlantic’s award-winning journalism, including its archives and newsletters, into shareable videos; producing social-first video projects in partnership with the larger editorial vision; nurturing relationships with audiences on video-first platforms. This editor will amplify our presence on new and existing platforms, increase our publishing cadence, enhance our visual style, and diversify our video portfolio. The editor will also be expected to keep The Atlantic at the forefront of industry trends, and seek new publishing opportunities to connect our journalism with wider and newer audiences.

Mandatory Experience/skills

  • 4-6 years of experience editing digital/social video, preferably for a media organization
  • Excellent news and editorial judgment. Strong writing skills
  • Filming, including experience working with lighting equipment, gimbals, and microphones
  • Ability to conceptualize high-level video pitches and projects
  • Ability to juggle quick-turn video needs and longer-range feature projects
  • Ability to tailor videos for diverse social media platforms
  • Record of innovation in video concept, format, or execution
  • Media and social media fluency
  • The ability to generate and lead social conversations across a wide range of topics

  • Experience working on video projects involving in-the-field reporting or interviewing

This job is based at The Atlantic’s offices in either New York City or Washington, D.C.

Salary minimum: $70,000; Salary maximum: $80,000
