Senior Database Administrator
In compliance with company policies and procedures, the Senior Database Administrator is responsible for design, engineering, installation, monitoring, automation, alerting, space management, database backup, recovery, configuration, and maintenance in both Windows and Azure environments. The Senior Database Administrator will be required to assist with appropriate data engineering tasks to connect data within our various environments. In addition, communication, documentation, security measures, and best practice guidelines in the Aqua Finance environment will need to be carried out.
Essential Functions
- Database performance tuning and monitoring
- Database server patching, upgrades, and security hardening
- Planning, deploying, and documenting of new Windows Server, Azure SQL Server, and Azure SQL Server Managed Instance based databases and the data and tables located within.
- Implementing proper security controls and routinely manage and audit access to servers.
- Writing SQL queries for purposes of creating, retrieving, and manipulating data and reports
- Suggesting proper SQL hygiene and data architecture reviews to Aqua developers building various databases for transaction processing.
- Committing SQL changes through DACPAC (Data Tier Application Package) and utilizing version control when applying changes to the DACPACs
- Presenting changes as required during a weekly CAB meeting.
- Participating in an on-call rotation schedule for occasional maintenance, outages, and product release support
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and assistance to the Database Administrator(s) on the team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science, or related field, or commensurate work experience required
- 5 years of related work experience with progressively elevated roles required
- 3 years of experience with Windows SQL Server 2017, 2019, or 2022
- Extensive knowledge of SQL Language
- Extensive knowledge of MS SQL Server & Azure SQL Server / Managed Instances
- Experience with Postgres a plus
- Familiar with Jira and Bitbucket/git
- Familiar with PostgreSQL
- Financial industry experience preferred
- Attention to detail and accuracy required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, visualize, talk, hear, and handle or touch objects or controls. The employee may occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds.
This position is an office-based position where you must be able to sit for extended periods of time. The employee will be working on a computer 90% of the time.
