Innovation Engineering Department
The Innovation Engineering team is responsible for the development of standards, templates, specifications, and owner’s requirements documents in support of Vantage’s global growth, most notably leading the Vantage prototyping effort known as OneDesign.
The team collaborates with all multi-functional teams within Vantage to drive prototypical designs for global deployment to ensure high quality, consistent product deployments in alignment with constantly evolving internal and external customer requirements. In addition to standards development, the Innovation Engineering team is responsible for leading due diligence assessment of merger and acquisition opportunity, and development of design requirements for customer build to suit opportunities.
Position Overview
Vantage is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to be part of the Innovation Engineering team that owns the standardization of products across Vantage’s companywide portfolio.
In this role you will be responsible for design development of microgrid solutions, on-site power generation, high-voltage electrical systems including substations, switchgear and MV transformers. Develop associated standards and specification, to enable establishing a procurement program.
Regular teamwork and coordination will be required with architects, other engineering fields, procurement, and facility operations team. You will work with the regional design and execution teams to ensure that new standards are established, and existing standards are implemented and coordinate any enhancements required to be incorporated into the standard design and specifications.
This is a remote role and can be based anywhere in the US. Travel is required (see Job Requirements.)

Essential Job Functions
- Lead design and engineering efforts for high-voltage electrical systems – substations, switchgear, and transformers.
- Coordinate with internal teams on developing on-site power generation solutions.
- Supervise the development of microgrid solutions – including system level architecture, integration with renewable energy sources that can operate in a grid-connected or island mode.
- Develop, maintain and update – standards, reference designs – electrical block diagrams, single line diagrams, to allow for rapid deployment of these designs with minimal site adaptation.
- Collaborate with mechanical counterparts to develop and optimize central utility plants design and required electrical interface.
- Drive innovation of Vantage’s competitive advantage through implementation of emerging technologies, product developments and patents.
- Visit manufacturing plants for Factory Witness Testing (FWT) of critical equipment.
- Provide oversight and review of program level design plans, equipment, and system submittals.
- Ensure consistent design execution through coordination and handoff to internal and external project direct resources for site adaptation of program prototype.
- Coordinate heavily with internal engineering team across all fields to ensure products delivered to Operations is streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions.
- Conduct value engineering analyses and provide system recommendations based on return on investment and IRR analysis.
- Use engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyze loads, lighting levels, short-circuit currents including:
- Load Analysis and Failure Scenario Calculation.
- Short-circuit and overcurrent protection device coordination studies.
- Arc Flash mitigation studies.
- Distribution analysis, including voltage drop and underground duct bank heat effect (Neher-McGrath) calculations.
- Lighting photometric studies.
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, from an accredited university or college
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience with microgrids, high-voltage electrical system design and construction required.
- Data Center and/or mission critical experience is preferred.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, Word, AmpCalc and ETAP modeling software.
- Solid understanding of critical power infrastructure within a data center.
- Solid understanding of all building and fire codes ordinances.
- National and international travel required and is expected to be 10 to 15%, but may increase over time as the business evolves.

Additional Information
- Salary Range: $135,000 - $155,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)
- This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.
- Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
