Senior Machining Specialist - Rover | 1st Shift

Summary

Set up, operate, and program computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment. Equipment may include, but is not limited to, ID Grinding, OD Grinding, Vertical Grinding, Surface Grinding, and Mill Turn equipment. Serve as a subject matter expert with the ability to provide guidance to others. Provide input for improvements in production processes, methods, and controls.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and work orders, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and set-up requirements for all equipment in the machine shop.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of CNC machining by troubleshooting and resolving issues on the shop floor.
  • Collaborate with programming department and production management to reduce production constraints by translating part programs for alternate work centers.
  • Design and build tooling and machining fixtures to reduce cycle time, increase throughput, and improve quality of our product.
  • Provide support for production by filling in for CNC Operators as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Provide support in coordinating production or engineering prototype items, coordinating rework as needed, and supporting the assembly team to determine root cause of assembly fit up issues.
  • Develop, write, and edit programs for product completion, adjusting as needed to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Verify conformance of finished work to specifications utilizing measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.
  • Interpret inspection documents and CMM results, which may include calculations and GD&T.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and vendors regarding product tooling and design to ensure effective production methods.
  • Mentor less experienced employees to help them be successful in their job.
  • Perform and document level 1 TPMs and level 2 TPMs, as required.
  • Work closely with all areas of manufacturing.
  • Work safely and support OSHA regulations, company safety priorities, and good manufacturing practices.

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

This role involves mentorship responsibilities. The employee is expected to always maintain a professional demeanor and support the directives of management.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

5 years’ related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or additional related education preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Programming Certificate

Communication Skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both over the phone and in person. Ability to read, write and comprehend documents and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to internal and external individuals and groups. Ability to display active listening skills and ask the appropriate questions.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Additional Skills

  • Knowledge of machining processes for CNC Mill and CNC Lathe.
  • Knowledge of plant layout and Lean Manufacturing Principles.
  • Knowledge in the practical application of engineering science and technology in the production of materials, processes, quality control and costs.
  • Ability to observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Attention to detail and analytical thinking required.
  • Must have good leadership skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Computer and CAD/CAM Experience including Microsoft Office and Solid Works (required) and AutoCAD (optional).
