Location:Remote with travel; preference given to candidates near Denver, New York, Dallas or Los Angeles areas in US.
The Senior Packaging Engineer position reports into the Program Director, Associate Director or Program Manager and supports a client’s Packaging Research and Development and Manufacturing departments. The role handles the research, development, and execution of packaging initiatives and provides technical support to the on-site Operations team. Projects can span across multiple packaging formats such as flexibles, corrugate, folding cartons but this position will be heavily focused on rigid plastics such as blow molded bottles and injection molded caps.
In this role you will be accountable for:
• Executing rigid plastics development projects including lightweighting existing components, developing new structures, qualifying new suppliers and implementing changes in material types in support of sustainability initiatives.
• Demonstrating creativity in the development of packaging systems. Promote the spirit of innovation across different networks including suppliers, the internal technical community, and cross-functional teams.
• Exploring new packaging materials, shapes and technologies, as well as consumer trends, to apply them to new innovations.
• Supporting the innovation process by proposing, developing and implementing packaging options.
• Developing primary, secondary and transport packaging in line with the company's objectives; cost, quality, circularity and time.
• Representing the Packaging function in project teams; partnering with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Engineering and Supply Chain).
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, sister business units, plants, co-manufacturers and other sources of applicable technologies.
• Contributing to the packaging development for projects of all sizes.
• Accountable for the creation and maintenance of the packaging specifications.
• Organizing and conducts trials in an industrial environment.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree minimum, Master’s degree in sciences or engineering ideal (Packaging, Mechanical, Chemical or related engineering science)
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a packaging engineering field (preferably in food & beverage)
