Job Description

Under direction of the CEO, the Senior Program Director is responsible for assisting in the developing, organizing and implementing high quality YMCA sports and recreational programs and aquatics programming for youth and adults including; pre-school sports, school age sports, sporting leagues, and family recreational opportunities. This position can and should positively affect the physical, mental, social and emotional development of the YMCA participant. The Director will successfully fulfill his/her job description by meeting or exceeding the program goals and objectives.

The expectations for this position is that youth and adult sports & recreation programs will experience an overall increase in programs offered, revenue, participants and further program development as well as growing the department as a whole.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years experience in program development. administration and management.
  • Demonstrated track record in program growth & development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Budget management experience.
  • Experience with coordinating volunteers and supervising staff.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include; CPR and First Aid
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings during sport league seasons and to oversee programs.

Essential Sports & Rec Functions

  • Directs, coordinates and supervises sports and recreation program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Assists the Director of Member Engagement with sports and recreation programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops, prepares, and justifies a budget for areas of responsibility. Controls and accounts for the expenditure of funds in accordance with the approved budget. Makes recommendations based on investigation for program fees.
  • Interviews, recruits and trains sports and recreations staff and volunteers. Assists in reviewing, monitoring, motivating and evaluating staff performance
  • Assists with sports program registration, attendance records, and accounts receivable.
  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games, practices and programs; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  • Solicits & secures sport team sponsorships from local business owners.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings and training and meetings for coaches and or staff.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards.
  • Organizes and hosts community events promoting YMCA health and wellness programs.
  • Markets and Distributes sports and recreation program information.
  • Ensures quality control standards and participants' safety.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in the program.
  • Plans and organizes youth lock-ins.
  • Leads program committee.
  • Attends all board and committee meetings as needed.
  • All other duties assigned.

Effect On The End Result

The Senior Program Director position, as part of the Management Team, will allow for more consistent and quality customer service by making members, participants and guests of the YMCA feel welcome and increase their sense of belonging to the YMCA. The overall result of these actions will create engaged members and participants with a strong connection to the YMCA. Their positive experiences will result in members and participants becoming ambassadors for the YMCA. There will be a positive impact on membership enrollment, satisfaction and retention and there will be a strong, effective and highly motivated staff team.

Holidays – 9 paid begins immediately; prorated at time of employment.

Vacation – After 1 year = 1 weeks, after 2 years – 2 weeks, after 5 years – 3 weeks and after 10 years – 4 weeks. Vacation is not cumulative.

Sick Pay – 5 days per full year of employment. Not cumulative and is prorated at time of employment.

  • Family membership and 50% discount off member rate for programs with fees.
  • Training approved by the CEO will be paid for by the YMCA.
  • Salary: $35,000-45,000 DOE
