The Role:
Generate Biomedicines is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate, Protein Expression to join our Large-scale Biotherapeutics Production Team. This individual will play a central role in supporting Generate’s discovery portfolio by producing plasmid DNA constructs, performing transient and stable cell transfections, and delivering therapeutic protein production batches. The successful candidate will be creative, self-motivated, and independent. This is a unique opportunity to work across a wide range of protein expression systems and therapeutic protein modalities in a discovery-minded, cross-functional, and team-oriented setting.
Here's how you will contribute:
- Perform plasmid DNA cloning using contemporary techniques including Gibson and Golden Gate Assembly
- Produce transfection quality DNA using standard and high throughput methods
- Characterize and QC DNA batches using Sanger and NGS sequence analysis
- Transfect mammalian cells using lipofection and electroporation
- Perform protein expression batches in deep-well plates, shake flasks, microbioreactors, and benchtop bioreactors
- Assess protein batches for titer and product quality
- Represent the Large-scale Biotherapeutics Production Team at program meetings
- Work closely with downstream partners to ensure timely delivery of harvest material
- Maintain meticulous records and registries of DNA, protein, and cell line batches in the laboratory information system (LIMS)
- Carefully and comprehensively record experimental results in electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- MSc degree in a scientific field of study and 2 years of relevant scientific experience in a biotech/pharma setting; or a BSc degree in a scientific field of study and 4 years of related experience; or 7 years of related experience.
- Hands-on experience in industry setting
- A meticulous nature with attention to detail
- A self-starter attitude with the ability to take initiative
- Excellent communication, documentation, and technical writing skills
- The ability to solve problems and work independently
Location: Andover, MA (Primary) and Somerville, MA (30%)
