Title: Cloud SQL Database Administrator
Work Model: 100% Remote
Engagement: 12-month contract with possibility for extension/conversion (40-hour weeks)
Rate: $50-$70/hr (DOE)
We're looking for a top-tier Cloud SQL DBA with a passion for SQL Server. You'll play a critical role in ensuring the health, performance, and security of our mission-critical SQL Server databases running on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Responsibilities:
Database Administration:
Manage the lifecycle of Cloud SQL for SQL Server instances, including provisioning, configuration, patching, and upgrades.
Implement and maintain best practices for database security, access control, and auditing.
Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
Coordinate with the backup team to ensure regular backups and restore operations to ensure data recovery in case of incidents.
Provide technical guidance and support to developers on SQL Server best practices.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
Use Terraform to define and manage Cloud SQL for SQL Server infrastructure in a code-driven manner.
Integrate Terraform with GitLab for version control and collaboration on IaC configurations.
Develop and implement IaC terraform modules for deploying and managing Cloud SQL instances in a repeatable and scalable way.
Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration changes using DevOps principles.
DevOps:
Collaborate with developers and operations teams to implement a continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline for database deployments.
Develop and maintain automated scripts for database tasks using tools like PowerShell or Bash.
Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure deployments managed through IaC.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA)
Experience with Cloud SQL for SQL Server administration
Strong understanding of SQL Server T-SQL and query optimization techniques
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts, preferably with Terraform
Experience with GitLab or similar version control systems
Working knowledge of DevOps principles and practices
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Bonus Points:
Experience with GCP security best practices (IAM, Cloud KMS)
Experience with database performance optimization tools and techniques related to SQL Server
Experience with CI/CD pipelines for database deployments
