SQL Server Database Administrator

Responsibilities

• Work with developers to implement new designs, optimize designs.
• Proactive monitoring for logical (indexes, bad joins, best practices) and physical (file-group layout, disk latency) problems
• Participate in all changes made to the system as it relates to the Database systems and process.
• Maintain, debug and improve database code as required by the business process.
• Advise and adhere to SQL Server development best practices
• Write and maintain procs and ad-hoc SQL
• Formulate short and long term improvement plans for database systems.
• Capacity planning - monitoring growth, pro-active archiving.
• Server management - OS service pack testing and deployment.
• On-call support -weekends, evenings.
• Periodically extract and transform data for reports used by sales and support teams

Qualifications

• 5 years of production DBA experience
• 5 years of database development experience utilizing TSQL for creating database objects i.e. Tables, Stored Procedures, Functions, Triggers and Views
• 5 years of experience in database optimization and query optimization techniques including ability to read query execution plans
• Knowledge of designing, developing and maintaining database environments for a Cloud based solution (SaaS)
• Experience with CLR (C#) is a plus
• Experience and knowledge of database design, including use of common ER design tools
• Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention
• Strong structured problem solving skills and analytical thinking with organizational skills.
• Ability to turn requirements into implemented database solutions. Incorporating business logic into database logic with necessary data structures, data validation, exceptional handling and automated reporting.
• Follow necessary quality assurance methodologies to ensure that the database code meets the expected performance and scalability requirements
• Strong knowledge and experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Good testing methodology
• Experience working with software version control such as TFS, CVS or Subversion
