The Sr. Designer manually and electronically designs and drafts detailed drawings, such as wiring diagrams and layout drawings for construction projects. Evaluates design work and supporting documents to verify conformance to industry codes and customer specific specifications and standards.
The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
7 or more years of experience in electrical utility design
Advanced knowledge of electrical distribution design principles in both overhead and underground applications.
Ability to read and analyze results of pole loading, work prints and construction drawings.
Deep knowledge and understanding of NESC, and joint use guidelines, joint pole agreements and processes.
Knowledge of applicable regulations, related codes, and standards.
Knowledge of design and operating standards as well as the ability to learn and implement customer specific design and operating standards.
Ability to plan and schedule work independently, to complete designs for large and/or complex systems
Capable of performing ad-hoc requests for complicated QA or Design services with little to no explanation and oversight; Ability to define and clarify design and quality standards
Experience with construction project management processes, tools, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects with reproducible results, preferred; Field experienced preferable, but not required.
Strong math skills including geometry and trigonometry required to perform complex calculations.
Excellent communication skills.
Maintain QA/QC processes and requirements.
Experience working with Outside Plant Engineering in the following systems: AutoCAD, and or client-specific GIS software; Familiarity with pole loading software (Katapult, OCALC, SpidaCalc, etc.).
