General Summary:
Vertex is seeking an experienced Senior Research Associate to join the Cell and Genetic Therapies (CGT) type 1 diabetes genetic engineering team in Boston, MA. The group is dedicated to discovering and advancing the next generation of cell therapies for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop gene editing approaches for stem cell-based therapies. The ideal candidate will be highly passionate, driven, and determined, displaying resourcefulness and proactivity in their work. The position requires the ability to troubleshoot results to complete project goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will be a team player, working within an interdisciplinary and collaborative team environment.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Designs, executes, and interprets experiments with a high degree of reliability and independence.
- Generates cell lines through genetic engineering techniques, including gene editing, viral transduction, and clonal cell expansion.
- Conducts gene editing-based assays to evaluate on- and off-target editing in human pluripotent stem cells.
- Performs genomic and functional assays to characterize edited cell lines, including DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, and Western blot.
- Documents scientific work and contributes to the development of SOPs.
- Presents findings to the team and summarizes data into reports.
- Collaborates with team members and other teams to achieve scientific goals and meet company timelines.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and highly collaborative team environment.
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks across different projects.
- Ability to quickly adapt, learn new skills, and be receptive to feedback.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
- Strong presentation and documentation skills.
- Mammalian cell culture experience and outstanding aseptic cell culture technique.
- In-depth knowledge and application of genome editing technologies.
- Proficiency in a variety of biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology techniques.
- Experience with NGS library preparation and sequencing.
- Masters Degree (or equivalent degree) in biological sciences and 0-2+ years of relevant employment experience, or
- Bachelors Degree (or equivalent degree) in biological sciences and 4-5+ years of relevant employment experience
