Summary

Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Student Systems for Information Technology, the Student Systems Developer performs complex analytical activities associated with Ellucian Banner modules and third-party applications, such as PyraMed, RMS Mercury, Transact, Active Net, Rave, Persona to support the Ellucian Banner implementations and Student Development and Campus Life (SDCL) integrations. The Student Systems Developer serves as Office of Information Technology support specialist for Banner and SDCL applications. This position also plays a key role in the ongoing transition to Workday Student in multiple technical workstreams within the implementation project and assists with any of the third-party products that are purchased to interface with and complement the Ellucian Banner Administrative Systems.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Performs requirements analysis and technical planning in the design and implementation of secure applications.
  • Coordinate with vendors for various applications to perform audits and analyze system performance, stability, and security measures and make recommendations for hardware and software upgrades.
  • Demonstrates technical understanding of the business process mandated by academic functions and SDCL administrative systems and their interfaces.
  • Consults with the Director, Student Systems to perform and/or assist the technical support staff in the installation and deployment of applications according to baseline security measures and appropriate operation and functionality practices.
  • Evaluates program goals, operations and performance as required; develops and implements alternative procedures to improve performance and meet program objectives.
  • Contributes to the preparation of studies and reports containing findings and recommendations for the implementation of application software to meet the needs of the various users.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication and cooperative working relationships with the University’s administrators, faculty and staff, government, and private agencies in order to accomplish the objectives of the Academic and SDCL and Information Technology Divisions.
  • Assists the Data Conversion, Report Development, and Integration Workstreams on the Workday Student implementation.
  • Completes Workday training, if needed, to perform Workday student project tasks.
  • Develops appropriate communication with the user community to ensure transfer of operational, procedural, and policy information.
  • Works with the project managers and internal clients to develop plans and verify requirements for software applications that generate the need for changes in the information technology infrastructure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles and concepts behind applications analysis, design, project planning, resource estimates, thorough testing and debugging, implementation and documentation.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in programming and database techniques for complicated and extensive applications which interface with multiple other administrative systems.
  • Translates advanced technical issues into understandable terms for non-technical functional users.
  • Develops programs, command procedures and scripts to enhance the functionality and manageability of supported systems.
  • Maintains integrity and appropriate confidentiality in University and program operations.
  • Coordinates and supervises application upgrades as released by the vendors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in Computer Science or a related field. Relevant IT certifications/equivalent experience in an information systems role may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in systems programming in higher education.
  • Strong knowledge of university student lifecycle.
  • Three years of experience in SQL, PL/SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments with critical deadlines and changing priorities.

Preferred

  • Two years of experience with student services systems such as housing and meal plan management, ID card badging, physical access systems and student health records.
  • Workday specific experience is a plus.
  • Two years of experience in providing training to end users in technology solutions.
  • A minimum of three years of experience handling Banner data, applications, and data archival.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience with Banner ODS Reports & Integrations.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in integrations between Ellucian Banner, Workday, and other third-party applications.
