Technical Director- Automotive Flat Rolled Products

Job Summary: The Technical Director is a member of the Constellium-Bowling Green LLC Management Team. This position is responsible for new product development and qualification, applications engineering, new product validation in coordination with industrialization disciplines, coordinating and planning for successful OEM new platform launches, managing customer satisfaction related to product quality, and negotiating quality claims with our customers. The Technical Director also oversees and approves the implementation of work practices and protocols to maintain product compliance with customer specifications. The Technical Director works closely with the Commercial Team to help them achieve their commercial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the product development team (Application, Product, and Testing Engineers) to ensure products are available and qualified to support the growth strategy of the organization
  • Coordinates development activities with Industrialization, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams as well as Supplier facilities and Research Centers
  • Communicate performance to the management team on key product development indicators
  • Responsible for all aspects of technical communications to customers
  • Owns relationship with OEM supplier quality teams
  • Provides on-site technical customer service to customer facilities that consume our products
  • Negotiate quality-related claims in a manner which optimizes material utilization
  • Coordinate and review corrective action reports with Quality and Operations teams
  • Develops and executes a product development strategy to support revenue growth expectations
  • Develops and executes an application development strategy to channel products in a way that maximizes the revenue vs. complexity equation
  • Ensures that the product development cycle takes into account and complies with all necessary aspects of the APQP process
  • Coordinate R&D efforts with the parent companies to support the product development strategy
  • Confirms, approves and maintains all process parameters that affect product performance through the management of recipes and Customer Product Specifications (CPSs)
  • Approves all the testing procedures to ensure product compliance with customer specs
  • Comply with all EHS programs and requirements for the site, which include but are not limited to the following : compliance obligations, ISO programs, corporate & site-specific EHS rules, reporting of all injuries/ illnesses in a timely manner, training, and suggestions for continuous improvement opportunities
  • Supports the operations team in product/process development and implementation issues


Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in scientific, technical, or engineering field
  • 10 years’ experience in Automotive Product Development Environment
  • Leadership and Conflict Resolution Skills
  • Ability to work with diverse teams
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proactive, hands-on, independent, team player with high level of autonomy and flexibility


About Constellium Bowling Green: The finishing line at Bowling Green can produce 100,000 metric tons of aluminium Auto Body Sheet products annually.
