A teacher of theatre educates students in different acting styles, methods, and techniques. Teaching theatre means training pupils in how to communicate, control and project their voices, and present themselves. The responsibilities of a theatre educator include creating lesson plans, teaching students about plays and the history of drama, assisting students in creating their own dramatic pieces, organizing and managing the learning environment, directing performance rehearsals, helping to assemble and manage lighting and sets, and assessing student performances. In addition to teaching theatre electives, the teacher of theatre is expected to direct two mainstage theatre productions each year.

Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Certification: NJ Standard, CEAS, or CE as a Teacher of Theatre OR Speech and Dramatics (Endorsement #1451 OR #1440)
Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
Experience: Preferably, candidates will have had prior college-level and/or professional theatrical performing and/or directing experience.
