Union Payroll Specialist

Job Description

The position is responsible for handling and assisting in the company’s payroll and may include compiling record employee time and payroll data. This position is responsible for computing union employees' time worked, production, and commissions, including posting wages and deductions or preparing paychecks.

Essential Functions

  • Transfer timecards from field tracking software to accounting software for processing
  • Perform payroll checks, validation, and corrections as needed for union employees
  • Process data from internal pay group 2
  • Set up and process employee deductions for weekly payroll, including union deductions and liabilities, taxes, benefits, and wage garnishments
  • Calculate employee time worked, production, commission, bonus, and any other pay
  • Administer statements of payment to personnel either electronically or on paper
  • Create and submit reporting to all union locals as required
  • Serve as a secondary contact for nonunion (internal group 20) payroll functions

  • Implement relevant payroll legislation and policies to include compliance with Davis Bacon and union rules and rates
  • Engage in critical and confidential aspects of payroll
  • Participate in special projects, team training and development
  • Foster and maintain a safe work environment
  • Assist with the leadership and development of project team members
  • All other duties as assigned

No direct reports or supervisory requirements.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee regularly sits for long periods at a desk in front of a computer screen. The employee occasionally may be required to lift, push, pull, or carry objects; typically, when filing is needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position.

Travel

The role does not require travel.

Required Education And Experience

  • BS in Accounting of Finance (or other relevant fields of study), or equivalent experience
  • Proficient with financial software systems
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Construction industry experience preferred
  • Viewpoint experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of financial management software

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
