The Guidance Counselor will assist students in areas of academic achievement, personal or social development, and career exploration, so that each student can identify personal goals, strengths, weaknesses, and interests and grow to become a well-adjusted and productive adult. This role requires the counselor to continue to grow professionally in their understanding of dyslexia.
Qualifications
Master's degree in guidance and counseling or master's degree with the equivalent hours and courses required for a master's degree in guidance and counseling
Must hold a Louisiana Certification as a Guidance Counselor or meet certification requirements of the state of Louisiana as a Guidance Counselor
A minimum of 2 years of middle school and/or high school counseling and guidance experience (required)
Experience working with College Admissions to ensure accommodations for students (preferred)
Superior interpersonal skills with persons of all ages and across diverse backgrounds
Ability to work well with a variety of other personalities
Background and/or experience in education of dyslexic students (preferred)
Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and collaborate effectively with others
Possession of excellent writing, speaking and interpersonal skills
Requirements
Works closely with the school's Academic Team to develop the guidance framework
Tracks and provides guidance concerning student attendance, grades, scheduling, and college, career, and scholarship opportunities
Coordinates student registration and scheduling, testing and accountability
Routinely meets with parents and students to assure students are meeting established goals
Coordinates student activities such as Career Fairs, Middle and High School orientation, College Days, Boot Camps for EOCs and ACT, campus tours, etc.
Manages AP classes, dual enrollment, Quest for Success, and Advisory logistics, Attendance/Credit Recovery
Collaborates with students to identify career aspirations and academic goals; provides information and answers questions related to college applications and career choices
Collaborates with the school's Special Education team to develop, review, and/or modify student IEPs and 504 plans as needed
Demonstrates interest in gaining knowledge about dyslexia to fulfill LKA’s mission and pursues training/development in this area
Supports in the execution of Professional Development
Reports weekly to the Principal
Performs other related duties as assigned
