Summary

Biotech and beauty have sparked an industrial transition from petroleum and cultivated ingredients toward higher performing products with sustainability and novelty at its core. This role is responsible for creating the fundamentals and growing a formulation business where external brands can harness biotech and make the transition. Debut is on a mission to create higher performing beauty products that will transform the global cosmetic industry to a new era of clinically backed performance and efficacy. In this role, you will build and optimize a formulation business alongside the parent company, Debut. When we look to how this business will evolve, it's clear that the contract manufacturing businesses is fragmented, and companies have no true competitive advantage; for the first time in 50+ years, biotech will allow cosmetic finished goods manufacturers to stand out, enable market consolidation, and afford Debut the right to capture a $19B industry.

The successful candidate must demonstrate how their experience and vision will grow a successful formulations business. Here you will combine a catalogue of biotech-enabled active ingredients with our formulation technology to offer superior products. This role is highly collaborative between ingredient development, ingredient manufacturing, business development, account management, program management, operations, and marketing. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in business development, business growth, and cosmetic contract manufacturing. The entire beauty world will transition to bio-based in the future, and you will lead this transition.

Essential Functions

  • Grow the formulations business to enable the sale of biotech-enabled cosmetic finished goods for both private and white label goods in the US market
  • Lead marketing, sales, and account management while working with ingredient production, operations, and external CMs to rapidly go from customer inquiry to delivered finished goods
  • Create processes to convert top-of-funnel customers to biotech-enabled products to meet aggressive sales goals
  • Design and execute business development initiatives including total number of annual customers, number of units sold, and account penetration
  • Work with external pack and fill CMs to de-risk the formulation business strategy

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years in business development or sales within the cosmetic goods industry
  • Experience in private label cosmetic finished goods production and sales
  • Experience in going from customer discovery through to delivery of finished products
  • Proven in business development and business growth in finished cosmetics goods
  • Has worked with account managers, operations, finance, and marketing to drive business growth
  • Experience in financial modeling and P&L analysis is key
  • Experience in collaborating with brand owners, customers, and technical teams

  • Continuous upward and downward flexion of the neck.
  • Frequent sitting, repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
  • Occasional walking, standing, bending, and twisting of neck, bending and twisting of waist, squatting, simple grasping, reaching above and below shoulder level, and lifting and carrying of files weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • The performance of this position will present exposure to an industrial environment and requires support and compliance with the published Company PPE policy including but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment as needed.
  • This position operates within an office setting and may be exposed to typical office environment conditions, including ambient noise levels and temperature variations.
