Youth Mentor (11am-7:30pm)

SafeHaven is seeking a Youth Mentor (11am- 7:30pm)

This position assists youth in shelter with seeing the world outside the box and providing mentorship by developing and implementing trauma-informed youth programming that includes advocacy as well as recreational activities.

This position has significant responsibilities that includes serving as an advisor, coach, and an advocate in helping youth build resilience and direct them towards a successful path to adulthood. Identify and assess client strengths and challenges in order to coordinate and provide the best possible services.

The specific qualifications for this role are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Physical Education or related field. Will consider high school diploma or GED with related work experience.
  • Experience working with child victims of domestic violence and knowledge of dynamics of family violence preferred.
  • Prior demonstration of skills in crisis intervention, group facilitation preferred.
  • Must possess knowledge of developmental stages, age-appropriate activities, and care guidelines for children.
  • Must be able to make sound, independent decisions, and act effectively in a residential setting.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent services and work with diverse staff and clientele in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner.
  • Strong organization and time management skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced and changing environment.
