- [Instructor] Ensuring that an application and its data is highly available is a key part of any solution architect's design. Maintaining availability during data center and regional outages is likely to be a requirement using High Availability, and Business Continuity configurations. We have already spoken about High Availability options when talking through the service tiers for Azure SQL DB and Azure SQL MI. General Purpose uses the Highly Available features of the Azure storage model to store states for the database and on failure, a new SQL Server service is spun up on a new node, which connects to the stored state. Business Critical uses an always on availability group where state is replicated to each node, ensuring there are always secondary replicas that can be switched to immediately from the primary replica on failure, therefore minimizing data loss.
