- [Instructor] Relational data has a static structure. It is governed by rules which predefine how the data must be stored and transacted against. This video takes a high level look at the Microsoft solutions for relational data in Azure. SQL Server is Microsoft solution for relational data. Azure SQL Server can be deployed in three different ways: SQL virtual machines, SQL managed instances, and SQL databases. SQL virtual machines are an almost direct equivalent to SQL Server running on-premises. Hence, they are lift and shift-ready. As an IaaS, or infrastructure as a service product, you will have OS-level access and are responsible for patching the operating system and SQL Server. SQL managed instances and SQL databases are the PaaS, or platform as a service products, and therefore, patching an upgrade are managed for you.
