Give feedback as a coach

- Think about times when you've received positive feedback. What did your leaders say and do? How did it make you feel? Now think about a time you received negative feedback. Were the words used to deliver the message clear and without judgment? Did you take the feedback purposefully, not personally? Giving feedback to the people you coach can be very powerful and it's extremely important. But many leaders don't receive specific training in this area. Beyond that, there's a wide range of coaching obstacles that can get in the way. I've included a handout with more information about those. To help you improve your feedback skills and your impact as a coach, here are five guidelines to follow. First, feedback should be specific.
