- Drafting is a process used to create technical drawings. But it is not a particular type of drawing. In fact there are many different types of drawings that can be created with the drafting process. Also, since drafting is employed by many varied professions and sub disciplines, each have specialized drawing types and conventions, not necessarily shared by the other disciplines. We will look at some of the specific drawing types like plans, elevations and sections in the next video. But all of these drawing types typically share a few common characteristics. So let's start with the first. Drafting is often abstracted. Drafting is not photo realistic and this is intentional. You have no doubt seen some illustrations or sketches or paintings that look quite realistic and in some cases you really have to look at them carefully to tell that it is not a photograph.
