- [Instructor] You're an engineer. You're probably used to staring at and interpreting numbers, but your boss isn't familiar with your data, and even if he is, you shouldn't be wasting his time. You want to make your point as quick as you can, so in this video, I will show you some examples of how to design a chart, and, maybe even more importantly, how not to, and we're already looking at the first example of a chart that I frown upon a little bit. The chart is called a gauge chart, and they are quite difficult to set up in Excel, but really popular for the dashboard people. Gauge or speedometer charts have a very poor ink-to-information ratio. In toughest words, dashboard people love them, but they use a lot of space to show only a single number. Notice how this chart is displaying that 83.5% of the EU gas storage is filled.
