Now let's look at each of these computing models in more detail. We'll start with Infrastructure as a Service or IaaS. IaaS is a computing model that offers the on-demand availability of almost infinitely scalable infrastructure resources such as compute, networking, storage, and databases as services over the Internet. IaaS allows organizations to lease the resources they need instead of having to buy hardware outright, and they only pay for what they use. It provides the same technologies and capabilities as a traditional data center without having to physically maintain or manage all of it. One of the main reasons businesses choose IaaS, is to reduce their capital expenditures and transform them into operational expenses.
