From the course: How to Conduct a Phishing Email Investigation

Why email investigations matter

- [Narrator] Email security refers to the protection of email messages and their contents from unauthorized access, interception, modification, or deletion. It involves a range of techniques and technologies that are used to prevent email-based threats such as spam, phishing, malware, and other forms of cyber attacks. Some common email security measures include the use of strong passwords, two-factor authentication, encryption, antivirus software, and spam filters. Additionally, email security policies and procedures can be established to ensure that users are educated on safe email practices and to monitor and respond to potential threats. Email security is important because email is one of the most commonly used forms of communication and contains sensitive and confidential information. A compromised account can lead to identity theft, financial loss, and other types of fraud. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals and organizations to implement proper email security measures to protect themselves and their sensitive information, and that's not even including the damage that can happen when the intruder wants to spread their impact by targeting people in your address book and send them files and links as well.
