- Now that we have covered owning our impact, there is one last module in this chapter about how we take individual accountability. That is, examining our privilege. And if you're watching this LinkedIn course, I can almost guarantee you have some. Now, this one can be tough for a lot of people. You may be thinking, "Hold up, I grew up poor." "I work two jobs." "I am out of work." "I am the only woman on my team." "I work 80 hour weeks to get where I am." The list of the ways in which things can be challenging is long, and you can still have privilege. In the DEI context, privilege is the unearned social power you have based on the social identities that you occupy. Remember, there are many social identity dimensions: race, gender, age, education, ability status, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and the list goes on.
