The role of the researcher vs. the designer

- The most important rule of researching an infographic is simple. If you're designing the infographic, don't also take on the responsibility of researching it. Instead, these should be two separate roles. You see, the best infographics have great narratives as their foundation, but if you're tasked with both researching and designing the infographic, well, human nature suggests that one of these two tasks will get the short end of the stick. If your passion is for design, then it's possible that you will unintentionally choose data and information that is the most fun or exciting to design, rather than the best information to drive the narrative. For example, when I first decided to produce The History of E-commerce infographic, I knew that I wanted a vertical timeline as the anchoring element of the design.
