- I don't know about you, but when I'm upset, I tend to get tunnel vision. And it's hard for me to focus on anything else that's going on other than how I'm feeling. Do you know what I'm talking about? That tunnel vision is a part of a stress response and it keeps us hyper-focused as a way to try to feel safe and in control. The thing is, it doesn't usually help us feel better. Orienting is a felt resource you can use to help counteract that narrowing focus that happens when you get upset at work. It's about widening your perspective so that you can feel safe and anchored in the present moment. Before we try it, I'd like you to check in with yourself. In this moment on a scale of one to five, with five being really anxious or activated and one being kind of shut down or withdrawn, how do you feel? And be curious to how you knew the answer to that.
